Are there any options for common/ugly/old looking avatars or are we reduced to using young fashion models as avatars?

There's options for ageing the skin, and for scarring and such.
They make quite a difference
I made a smiling Amarrian Elvis :o
Bald Caldari Dude was not amused by this!
Sounds good. Will breasts start to sag with increased aging?

Originally by: ADMIN CEO I'm not impressed. It's the same soulless "improvements" as with the newer graphics. They're slick, high res and all that but they lack creativity. It's boring and bland.
I'll agree on the bland. The clothing looks amazing and so do some of the characters, but still a bit bland. Nothing futuristic or exceptional, color customisation is poor and it lacks the character many of the old portraits have. It is still WIP though, so we will have to wait and see what the finished product looks like. The current one doesn't even have proper shoes, dresses, or aviator shades, so there has to be a lot of things CCP isn't revealing in the current SiSi build.

*cough*
..both are from the same base, Gallente, Jin-Mei, Female:
This actually gives me hope about the finished system. Making decent looking avatars should be easy, but it also needs to be flexible enough to allow these kinds of abominations and other weird looking combinations.

I'd like to look like an excentric and odd old man. Something that is clearly not ordinary and a bit out of place, but still stylish and good looking. Willy wonka with those weird glasses might be a good example what I have in mind.

Wonder if I can create a chuck norris.... With a cowboy hat of course.
unfortunately the available beards suck. atm at least.
Are the "beards" the suspicious stains I see on the chins of some of the avatars pics posted here? The first thing I thought when I saw that was that "the boss of that brown noser must have left in a hurry to leave those skidmarks on his face".

Umm, yeah... that particular one does look a bit painted on on a hindsight (no pun intended). There are couple similar, others with more volume. I guess the one I selected tries to imitate tightly packed stubble, unfortunately the beards are layers and if you rotate the character to a certain angle you can see the different layers on top of each other. Similar to the one Brutor male "release the beast within"-version where you can see the layers on the side of his cheeks.
Instead of looking like actual hair on a persons face, all the beards look like the color brown was painted on the face and then a little fuzz effect was added to it. I think it looks all the worse, since the hair is done so much better, so there is a sharp contrast there that you can't help but compare it to.
